The benchmark ran on September 2, 2026 and made 156 live HTTP requests. It tested:

NewsData.io’s Latest endpoint covers the previous 48 hours. Webz.io normally searches a three-day crawl-time window by default, so the Webz.io requests were constrained by both publication time and crawl time to create the same 48-hour publication window: August 31, 2026 at 11:33 UTC through September 2, 2026 at 11:33 UTC.

NewsData.io was tested with the supplied free key. That plan delays results by 12 hours and excludes full article content, sentiment, short timeframes, and historical access. We treated rejected requests as account-plan restrictions rather than as proof that the underlying product has no such feature.

Coverage figures in this article are the totals reported by each API. They are not independently verified unique-article counts, and aggregate topic, country, and language totals may include the same article in more than one query. The benchmark therefore measures the candidate result set exposed by each API, not human-judged relevance for every result.

1. Webz.io returned 5.93x more news in the aligned window

The clearest difference was overall coverage.

For all news published within the same 48-hour window, Webz.io reported 5,513,536 matches. NewsData.io reported 929,581.

That gave Webz.io a 5.93x coverage advantage in the broadest test.

The difference was not limited to a few popular subjects. Webz.io returned more matches in all 14 topic queries, all 12 publisher-country queries, and all 12 translated-language queries.

NewsData.io’s free-plan delay may account for part of the difference. It does not explain away the consistency of the result across all 38 coverage comparisons.

The difference appeared in high-volume subjects such as Bitcoin and Ukraine, but also in narrow searches such as infostealer, aviation safety, and rare earth minerals.

That long-tail coverage matters in monitoring applications. The articles with the greatest operational value are often not the ones repeated by major publishers. They may come from a regional outlet, an industry publication, a small local source, or a specialist site that only occasionally covers the subject.

A larger result count does not by itself prove that every result is relevant. It does show that Webz.io gave the application a much larger candidate set from which to rank, filter, classify, or alert.

The gap was especially large in Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and Germany. Even in the closest comparisons, Webz.io returned the larger match set.

Publisher-country classification may differ between providers, so these figures should be read as a comparison of API behavior rather than a definitive count of each country’s news output.

Language coverage

For each language, we translated the exact phrase “artificial intelligence” and combined it with the corresponding language filter.

The very large ratios in Russian, Portuguese, and German may reflect differences in source coverage, phrase matching, indexing, and tokenization. They should not be interpreted as precise unique-source ratios.

The repeatable result is that Webz.io returned the larger candidate set in every tested language, including Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Japanese, Russian, and Chinese.

NewsData.io uses a mix of a Boolean q value and separate request parameters. In the live test, the supplied key rejected the sentiment, full-content, six-hour timeframe, and archive probes. Its domain-exclusion probe also returned HTTP 422. Webz.io accepted the corresponding searches.
